Our Projects

1. Black Soldier Fly (BSF): Turning Trash to Cash Project

Black soldier fly farming is an innovative approach to waste management and sustainable protein production. The black soldier fly, Hermetia Illucens, is a non-pest species of fly that can convert organic waste into high-quality protein and fat that can be used as feed for livestock, poultry, and aquaculture.
Black soldier fly farming can provide a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution for reducing waste, improving food security, and promoting sustainable agriculture.
2. Young Climate Ambassadors Program (YCAP)

Young Climate Ambassadors Project (YCAP) is an initiative that aims to involve school-going individuals from primary to college/university/TVET level in various climate action activities both online and physical. The program focuses on inculcating a positive mindset towards the environment among young people, with a special emphasis on initiatives to foster climate conversations, circular economy, and tree planting.
The program is anchored on climate education, organic waste management, and community advocacy to promote sustainability and environmental leadership.

4. Environmental Management And Jobs and Income Creation Status: Concluded

The EMAJIC Project (Environmental Management And Jobs And Income Creation) is a pioneering initiative tackling Nairobi’s waste management challenges through a unique community-driven approach. By integrating informal waste collectors and sorters into the formal system, EMAJIC fosters environmental sustainability, improves public health, and empowers marginalized communities with economic opportunities.
Implemented by Ustadi Foundation, the EMAJIC project empowered 35 women and youth groups of waste collectors in Kasarani and Ruaraka Sub-counties, reaching 800 individuals. These groups benefited from capacity building and training in group dynamics, Voluntary Saving and Loaning Association (VSLA) methodologies, entrepreneurship, and financial management, and received assistance in obtaining formal registration. All the groups successfully established formal structures and registered with the Department of Social Services.

5. SEHub Community Garden - Cultivating Climate Justice with Smart Agriculture

Our Community Gardens Initiative is a transformative project designed to create productive green spaces within urban environments. Our mission is to make use of small spaces to grow organic food using available recycled materials and waste.
By converting underutilized spaces into vibrant community gardens, we aim to provide residents with access to fresh, locally-grown produce, reducing food deserts and encouraging healthy eating habits.
