Global Bio Economy Summit 2024

We were privileged to participate in The Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS) 2024, themed “One Planet – Sustainable Bioeconomy Solutions for Global Challenges,” held from October 22-24 in Nairobi, Kenya. This prestigious international event brought together bioeconomy leaders from around the world to discuss how the bioeconomy can drive global decarbonization, biodiversity conservation, and innovation-led economic growth.

Hosted by the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), GBS 2024 focused on building resilient and sustainable food systems, positioning the bioeconomy as a model for transitioning to less fossil-dependent economies, conserving biodiversity, and leveraging innovation to create new economic opportunities, particularly for youth employment.

The summit featured workshops, panel discussions, and the launch of key reports on the bioeconomy in Eastern Africa. Notably, SEI, BioInnovate Africa, and EASTECO launched the report “The State of the Bioeconomy in Eastern Africa: 2024,” providing a comprehensive overview of the region’s bioeconomy landscape. The event served as a platform for fostering dialogue among diverse stakeholders, promoting the exchange of best practices, and identifying opportunities for global collaboration and innovation.
