2. Young Climate Ambassadors Program (YCAP)

Global Bio Economy Summit 2024 We were privileged to participate in The Global Bioeconomy Summit (GBS) 2024, themed "One Planet – Sustainable Bioeconomy Solutions for Global Challenges," held from October 22-24 in Nairobi, Kenya. This prestigious international event brought together bioeconomy leaders from around the world to discuss how the bioeconomy can drive global decarbonization, biodiversity conservation, and innovation-led economic growth.
Hosted by the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), GBS 2024 focused on building resilient and sustainable food systems, positioning the bioeconomy as a model for transitioning to less fossil-dependent economies, conserving biodiversity, and leveraging innovation to create new economic opportunities, particularly for youth employment.
The summit featured workshops, panel discussions, and the launch of key reports on the bioeconomy in Eastern Africa. Notably, SEI, BioInnovate Africa, and EASTECO launched the report "The State of the Bioeconomy in Eastern Africa: 2024," providing a comprehensive overview of the region’s bioeconomy landscape. The event served as a platform for fostering dialogue among diverse stakeholders, promoting the exchange of best practices, and identifying opportunities for global collaboration and innovation.

4. Environmental Management And Jobs and Income Creation Status: Concluded

The EMAJIC Project (Environmental Management And Jobs And Income Creation) is a pioneering initiative tackling Nairobi’s waste management challenges through a unique community-driven approach. By integrating informal waste collectors and sorters into the formal system, EMAJIC fosters environmental sustainability, improves public health, and empowers marginalized communities with economic opportunities.

Implemented by Ustadi Foundation, the EMAJIC project empowered 35 women and youth groups of waste collectors in Kasarani and Ruaraka Sub-counties, reaching 800 individuals. These groups benefited from capacity building and training in group dynamics, Voluntary Saving and Loaning Association (VSLA) methodologies, entrepreneurship, and financial management, and received assistance in obtaining formal registration. All the groups successfully established formal structures and registered with the Department of Social Services.

5. SEHub Community Garden - Cultivating Climate Justice with Smart Agriculture

Our Community Gardens Initiative is a transformative project designed to create productive green spaces within urban environments. Our mission is to make use of small spaces to grow organic food using available recycled materials and waste.

By converting underutilized spaces into vibrant community gardens, we aim to provide residents with access to fresh, locally-grown produce, reducing food deserts and encouraging healthy eating habits.
